Maitland Little League’s 11/12-year-old all-stars advance to the Florida Little League State Tournament after winning the Section 5 Championship

Maitland, Florida – Wednesday, July 27, 2011 – Maitland Little League’s 11/12-year-old all-star team was victorious in the Florida Little League Section 5 tournament July 22-26.  The Maitland team now advances to the Florida Little League State Championship Tournament in Coral Springs July 29-Aug. 1.

After clinching the District 23 title July 6, Maitland went on to win all three of its Section 5 tournament games, including games against District 24 (Orlando area – east) champions East Orange Little League (7-1), District 14 (Orlando area – west) champions Dr. Phillips Little League (4-3), and District 3 (Orlando area – south) champions St. Cloud Little League (3-2). The team is coached by Greg Stake (manager), Don’L Dease and Frank Mosley.

The Maitland team has racked up some impressive stats in the post season, including 73 hits for 69 runs scored in seven games.  The defensive stats are equally as impressive with only seven runs allowed over seven games and 65 strike outs in 36 innings pitched.

Congratulations to the players and coaches for both of these teams.

I also would like to extend a congratulations to our Padres team.  They went 4 – 0  in pool play to win the Majors pool at Maitland.  But since they will not be able to field a team for the finals (only 1 pool player is permitted to be used) they had to step aside.
